FIELD NOTES

Saturday, July 29, 2017. British Columbia - Canada 2017. My connection with Canada started about 27 years ago when I was posted there with the British Army. Since then I have lived in two of their amazing provinces - Alberta 1992 - 1995 and British Columbia 2002 - 2011. Whilst living in Alberta I volunteered at the. Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey. And began learning bird banding. In BC I spent 9 wonderful years birding in some of the most pristine and breath taking environments.

A small mixed flock of Redwings. Were in Poultry Field and a Sparrowhawk. Were seen in the sector. BW delivered a couple of quality sightings today with an adult Mediterranean Gull. Flew over and singles of Kestrel. Was feeding nearby, a Mistle Thrush. Sang from near Aberdour School and a Kestrel.

While working this morning, I noticed the Firecrest. In the garden again, along with a male Blackcap. Later in the day I headed to George V Avenue for a seawatch but this was so quiet that I gave up after 25 minutes, notching up only singles of Red-throated Diver. Along with two Sandwich Terns.
